Hi,

we have some XenServer Vm's running and need to migrate them to ESXi because of stability issues with XenServer.

my major problem is, that we don't have access to the VM's (no Admin Credentials).

How can i migrate these VM's to ESXi and Install VMWare Tools wihtout Access ?

The required client support files cannot be retrieved from the server "vsphereclient.vmware.com"

Hi, Dear friend

I am a beginner of ESXi 5.5, today i installed the server part on HP DL380, and the client tools on a PC. Now PC could ping DL380 ESXi, but when login, it show the error: The required client support files cannot be retrieved from the server "vsphereclient.vmware.com". The login process will now exit.

I input "vsphereclient.vmware.com" in a browser address bar, it also can't access this vsphereclient network.

Is there anything wrong? does this "vsphereclient.vmware.com" really works? or it should be the problem of my network?

NIC Driver Not Recognized During ESXi 6.5 Installation

I'm very new to the ESXi Hypervisor and would like to learn about its capabilities.  Unfortunately, the only test hardware I currently have available is an HP 2000-369WM laptop (calling this hardware far from ideal for this type of testing is an understatement).  I've tried installing ESXi 6.5 but, as anticipated, my NIC (Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller, Hardware ID PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8136&SUBSYS_3577103C) was not recognized/supported.  I was hoping to use the ESXi Customizer to include my NIC driver in the installation .iso but can't seem to find an appropriate driver .vib.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Hello All,

After install ESXi 6.0 via "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.0.0.update02-4192238.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A04" on Dell PowerEdge R730, everything is okay !!!

But, if I try to install ESXi 6.5 via "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.5.0-4564106.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A00" on Dell PowerEdge R730, my vmnic0 and vmnic1 (Intel X710 DP 10Gb DA/SFP+) are not working !!!

Does anybody know the solution ?

Thanks for your reply.

I've upgrade to Esxi 5.5 already and created a vmdk to 4.7 Tb and would like to expand it to 5.6 Tb.  I get the following error message when I attempt to expand it and I don't know why or how to bypass it: Hot-extend was invoked with size (12025908428 sectors) >= 2TB. Hot-extend beyond or equal to 2TB is not supported.

Is there a way to check the integrity of a VMDK file?  The system is reporting numerous I/O errors, and cannot be VMotion'ed to a different LUN.  Other VMS on the same LUN appear to be working normally.

Hey, Guys

Downloaded ESXi 5.5 this afternoon and burned a CD to upgrade my ESXi 5.1u1. But after the installer loaded, it prompted me that ESXi can not detect my network adaptor...

It works just fine with ESXi 5.1u1...Maybe I downloaded ISO wrong...

Here below is the output of the NIC from my ESXi version 5.1 update 1:

~ # lspci | grep -i net

00:03:05.0 Network controller: Realtek Realtek 8169 Gigabit Ethernet [vmnic0]

Please advise.

Thanks,

Very slow acces to datastores on HP MIcroserver Gen8. Can't edit System Resource Reservation with vSphere client.

I performed a clean install of ESXi 6 with provided HP image (ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.1.39-Mar2015).
Access to and from datastores over network through vSphere Client (6.0.0-2502222) is very slow - ~10 Mbps (  there are several hundreds under ESXi 5.5)
I'm suspecting that ESXi 6 limits CPU resources used by host system to 230 MHz.
I can't edit "System Resource Reservation" parameters (contrary to ESXi 5.5, where I can edit them and switch to Simple or Advanced view).

Hi experts,

I am getting strange behavior for ESXI6.5 (installed as test at my home clone server). Like i have installed 2 SSD, one is Intel M.2 and another is transcend SATA III SSD. from both SSD i have created datastore. But i am getting different speed on the 2 SSD like on intel i am getting full speed but on transcend i am getting only 16mbps speed. tried to search google, but didnt got any solution. my ESXI is installed on intel M.2 SSD.

esxi_ssd.jpg

Pls find the speed diff (2.02 vs 22.77 MB/s) t10.ATA is transcend and NVMe is Intel M.2

Pls suggest what to do.

My server config:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6800K

VMware ESXi 5.5.0 hanging while booting

This is 5.5.0 build 1331820 hanging on "nfsclient loaded successfully". The host is part of a ESX cluster and was running fine until after we had to rebuild vCenter server. All other hosts and everything else in the cluster is working fine. Has anyone seen this issue? I tried letting it sit for 20 minutes, then cold booted again and still the same.

This is on an HP ProLiant.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

VMDirectPath and ATI Radeon

I am using VMware ESXi and I am trying to setup a guest that is Windows 7 that will have an ATI Radeon video card passed through to it.  I actually had this working on a previous system but I had to reinstall.  Now when I do this the guest fails to start and I get the following:

Error message from localhost.XXXXXXXXXXX:
PCIPassthru 004:00.0: Guest tried to (null)map
32 device pages (with base address of 0xb5d20)
to a range occupied by main memory. This is

"2909" to the configuration file and then power
on the VM.

When I do as it asks, the guest now starts but gets an immediate BSOD concerning memory management.  Any ideas on why this is occuring and why it worked at one point but now it fails?

Installing ESXi - fatal error 6 (Buffer too small)

I tried to install the evaluation version of VMware ESXi 5 server and I finished pretty fast. The only thing I could see on the screen was:

Loading /tboot.b00

Loading /b.b00

Loading /useropts.gz

Loading /k.b00

Loading /a.b00

Loading /ata-pata.v00

Loading /ata-pata.v01

Loading /ata-pata.v02

Loading /ata-pata.v03

Loading /ata-pata.v04

Loading /ata-pata.v05

Error loading /ata-pata.v05

Fatal error: 6 (Buffer too small)

Could anyone please help me a bit? I don't know at all, what's going on and how should I continue with the installation.

Thanks.

Adding host to cluster: "Timed waiting for vpxa to start"

$

I have a cluster of 15 ESXi 5.0 hosts, with a 5.1 vCenter / Enterprise Plus license. This has been running well for quite some time, but two of my hosts were disconnected tonight and I am troubleshooting it now.

When I go to reconnect them, I get an error saying that "A general system error has occured: Timed waiting for vpxa to start". I did some searching and found that this was generally related to snapshots, but none of the VMs on either of my un-connectable hosts have any snapshots at all.

I've tried:

- Restarting vCenter services

- Rebooting vCenter

- Restarting services on the hosts

- Warm reboot of hosts

- Hard/cold reboot of hosts

- Powering off all VMs on hosts and entering maintenance mode

- DNS is working between hosts and vCenter, and vice versa

- Time is correct on vCenter and hosts

- Network connectivity is good between vCenter and hosts (all on the same switch)

However nothing seems to work, and I still can't add these hosts back to my cluster. What's odd is that I can connect to them directly with vSphere, but I just can't get them back into my vCenter. I get through the usual prompts when adding it (where it asks you to assign a license, etc) and it sees the VMs on the host as I'm adding it, but times out with this error after about 5 minutes.

Any insight would be very much appreciated.
